Product Research: The Beach

Danny Boyle has become my favourite person of 2013. After watching Trance, I came home and watched Danny Boyle's film The Beach which I had never bothered to watch when I saw it came on TV but, thanks to the heavens of technology, Netflix had the film. The film had excellent music which always seemed appropriate for the situation even though it was upbeat, Boyle challenges the stereotype of the tense situations with low-beat orchestral music. Boyle always uses upbeat music, from The Beach (2000) to Trance (2013).
A recurring motif in Boyle's films is that he always does the unexpected when you expect the expected.
By just watching his films it has taught me to make a great opening it does not need a lot, all you can have is the character and a voice-over, and that will have the effect on the audience.

Product Research: Panic Room Title Sequence

The title in Panic Room blends well with the scenery of the setting. It creates a sense of power, and makes the opening seem as if it is important.
It has a dominance over everything else in the setting, and is the centre of attention.

This is very amusing, Uncut Production are hoping to do something similar to this, we are currently using Adobe After-Effects on our perlimary task to play around with it, and learn how to use it, so when it comes down to our thriller, we know how to place different types of titles.

Product Research: The Hand That Rocks The Cradle

The Hand That Rocks The Cradle is an American drama thriller which was released in 1992.

Camera
Panning is used a total of times to give the audience an insight into the life of the characters who live in the house, this defines what kind of person or family that live in there. A pan is also used to emphasize what is being shown.

Editing
Slow editing is used when inside the house is being shown to create a sense of realism, it also allows the audience to think and maybe have a hint of the narrative.

Sound
Non-diegetic sound is shown to put a highlighting on the suburban area being showed, the non-diegetic sound is also smooth and calm, this challenges the genre of a thriller, at the same time it is also a convention that something too pure is never perfect.

Mise-en-scene
The white suburban house stands out from the other houses shown, this exaggerates the main setting of where everything will be happening.
Furthermore, the person riding a bike we do not see their face nor head this could hint that this person is a villain or an outcast.
The hood worn by the person on the bike tells the audience that this person is not from the neighborhood because they are protecting their identity.
Protecting your identity is a very popular convention used in thrillers. Protecting identity also covers a number of genres such as western and action, The Legend of Zorro is famous for the mask the main character Zorro wears.

Product Research: Pretty Little Liars Opening Sequence

The opening sequence of the Pretty Little Liars is very mystery-thriller because the viewers do not see the  face of the girl, who may be a victim being put into the coffin.  The lyrics in the theme song however contrasts from the girl in the coffin being innocent "Two can keep a secret if one of them is dead", 'two' being the girl in the coffin and each girl standing over it individually have a secret with the girl in the coffin, and two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.

The four leading teenagers seem to have authority over the coffin because they're standing over it which shows they are more powerful, they are also wearing similar clothing which could hint they are friends, which means there is more power on their side because there is more of them. On the other hand, the girl in the coffin is being groomed whilst being put into the coffin, this could show her characteristics of being a popular girl and this is revenge from the four girls.

The title of the show Pretty Little Liars hints the the four girls are not innocent because 'Liars' is not a plural, which could hint the girl in the coffin is innocent. The name of the show being put against clouds which are misty and light at the same time is a sign of double character and going from light to dark, putting yourself in danger.
